4G Electricity Meter: Now Electric Meters Will Be Recharged Like Smartphones

Power companies lose millions to the decades-old problem of electricity theft in the country, however, the government has come up with a special way to tackle the issue, 4G Electric Meters.

From 1st July onwards, the process of installing a 4G Electric Meter has kick-started in Uttar Pradesh. The decision aims to control the increasing number of connections and power theft. The 4G electric meters will be a lot different from the ordinary electric meters and they will not be billed, rather you will have to recharge them for electricity to be supplied to your house.

Residences which have old electricity meters installed will also be updated on the basis of the new technology. About 12 lakh meters of the old technology are currently installed, which will be converted to smart meters. The 4G meters will be recharged the same way as the prepaid recharge in the phones is done.

This recharge will be valid for a specified period and you will be given fixed units in it. In such a situation, you will not need to take the tension of the electricity bill. As soon as the 4G prepaid meter plan expires, you will have to recharge it again. This meter will not be tampered with in any way and if anyone is found doing so, then strict action can be taken against him.

The discussion was going on to bring this system for a long time and it had been implemented in many areas of Uttar Pradesh and now the exercise has started in the entire state. The work of its installation will be completed and power theft will be curbed, in the upcoming months. This process got the green signal after the UP Power Corporation and the Union Ministry of Power agreed to install smart 4G prepaid meters.
